Grade calculator

Average, required grade and scenarios. Free, no account; calculations stay in your browser.

Missing grade: not treated as zero and excluded from the current average.

Advanced options

Each category weight is a share of the final grade. Within it: equal shares, possible points or individual relative weights. Enter all planned work.

Final bonus: points added after weighting. Assessment bonus: points added to a points score numerator before weighting. Base scores stay within the maximum; only explicit bonuses may exceed it.

Rounding affects display only. Calculations and conditions use unrounded values. Check your institution’s rule.

Your calculation is kept in this browser. No grades are sent to a server. Avoid sensitive names or details on a shared device.

Two worked examples

80% weighted at 30% and 70% weighted at 30% give a 75% average and 45 earned points out of 100. 40% remains.

With 45 points earned, reaching 60% requires (60 − 45) ÷ 0.40 = 37.5% on all remaining work, without bonuses or other conditions.

How this result is calculated

Current average = sum(grade % × weight) ÷ sum of completed weights.

Earned contribution = sum(grade % × weight ÷ 100). Final bonus is added separately.

Required grade = (target − known or assumed contributions) ÷ (target weight ÷ 100).

Frequently asked questions

Does a blank grade count as zero?

No. It is excluded from the current average. An entered zero is included. A final grade needs all relevant grades or explicit assumptions.

Why must weights total 100%?

They represent the whole course. A lower total is partial; a higher total is inconsistent. Proportional rescaling occurs only on explicit request and can be undone.

Does rounding change the result?

Only the display is rounded as selected. Contributions and conditions never use rounded intermediate steps.

Points and percentages: what is the difference?

A points grade becomes earned ÷ possible points × 100. In a category, total points gives more weight to assessments with more possible points; it is not a simple average of percentages.

Can I meet the overall target but miss the exam minimum?

Yes. These are separate conditions. Simulation shows the minimum separately; only your institution can confirm applicable pass rules.

This tool does not calculate R scores or GPA. No universal institutional scale is imposed; confirm your course rules.
